5 Dos & Donts For Getting Blog Coverage
Promoting Blog Effectively, As a small business owner, you know the importance of blogging. You also know how important it is to get coverage from other blogs. But getting blog coverage means knowing how to pitch. It’s about making your email to that blogger stand out and make them want to hit the Reply button instead of just directing you to trash. And that’s not always easy.
Promoting Blog As a blogger and a SMB business owner, I’m constantly getting and sending out pitches. And there’s an art to it. Here are 5 Dos and Dont’s of pitching bloggers for coverage.
DO:
1. Know Who To Contact: Businesses quickly get in trouble when they create a rudimentary press list and then mass email everyone on it. This is something you really want to avoid. You want to create a PR linkerati list that will help you identify the most important outlets when you need them. Do some research to find the most relevant blogs in your niche, and then segment them by what types of stories they cover, what their audience likes, and the topics they’re interested in. You don’t want to contact EVERYONE when you have something to say, you only want to contact the people most interested.
2. Create Relationships Before The Pitch: Don’t wait until you need something to start forming relationships with the people on your linkerati list. Make contact long before that. Start conversations with them on Twitter, comment on their blogs, send them an email when they write a great post, etc. Anything that you can do to build a relationship with this person is going to help your chances of getting coverage. Because a pitch from someone you know isn’t really a pitch. It’s an email letting you know of something cool they’re up. That changes everything.
3. Have a unique story: People respond to stories. For example, your business turning two may not get the attention of your local newspaper, but the community block party you’re throwing for your customers to celebrate your birthday probably will. The blog post you wrote on Friday may not be that interesting, but the controversy that happened around it, might be. Keep an eye out for natural opportunities that may arise. They’re often goldmines for press and the types of things bloggers and reporters like talking about.
4. Personalize the pitch: When you finally go to pitch the blogger, make sure it’s personalized to what they’ll best respond to. That means knowing their name, where they write for, a few posts they’ve written that you liked or got good attention, what their audience likes, etc. Many bloggers also have a stated pitch policy on their site. Make sure you read it so you’re not burning any bridges before you start. When you do send the email, just be personable. If you sound uncomfortable, you’re going to make the reader sound uncomfortable.
5. Lay out the benefit for my readers: Bloggers are not interested in you, your company or how cool you think you are. They are interested in their readers. Your pitch email should be about their audience and how you can bring value to them. That’s what they want to hear about. Don’t talk about you.

4. Ask me to review something I haven’t tried: I can’t review a book I haven’t read, nor can I write about a product I haven’t tried. Understand this.

Menghadapi pertandingan perdana Piala Dunia 2010, Menteri Pemuda dan Olahraga Andi Alfian Mallarangeng ternyata menjagokan kesebelasan tuan rumah Afrika Selatan. Andi yakin tim berjuluk 'bafana-bafana' itu akan menekuk Meksiko dengan skor 2-1.
"Hidup Bafana-bafana," ungkap Andi sebelum digelarnya acara nonton bareng Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono dengan para menteri dan wartawan di ballroom hotel Intercontinental Denpasar, Bali, Jumat (11/6). Andi berkeyakinan dengan tradisi tim tuan rumah Piala Dunia tidak pernah kalah di pertandingan pembuka.
Ia yakin tim yang diisi oleh penyerang Steven Pienar ini akan menang 2-1. Bukan hanya karena tradisi, Andi melihat faktor penonton juga akan sangat menentukan. "Itu memang sebuah keuntungan bagi tuan rumah," lanjut Andi.
Namun, Andi mengakui kedua tim merupakan tim hebat. Tim Afsel dengan kemampuan khas Afrika, cepat dan lincah, akan dihadapkan dengan tim Amerika Tengah dengan permainan skill tinggi.

Luna Maya tetap jadi duta WFP
Video Luna Maya Meskipun tersandung video porno, Luna Maya tetap akan menjadi duta nasional World Food Programme (WFP). Namun, sayangnya dia tidak hadir dalam acara WFP pagi tadi.
“Dia bilang sedang berhalangan,”kata Public Information Officer WFP, Mitra Salima Suryono saat ditanya wartawan di Jakarta, Minggu (6/6).
Saat ditanyakan perihal video tersebut, WFP mengaku tidak bisa berkomentar. "Itu saya nggak bisa jawab. Saya juga belum lihat (videonya),” terangnya.
Menurutnya, apa yang terjadi adalah masalah personal Luna Maya sendiri. Yang pasti, katanya Luna sudah menjadi bagian dari kampanye WFP sejak tahun 2006 silam. “Dan sudah membantu 30 juta anak dari kekurangan gizi buruk dan kelaparan,” katanya.
Meskipun begitu, dia mengakui bahwa salah satu syarat untuk menjadi duta nasional WFP adalah seseorang yang memiliki image yang baik. “Mempunyai image yang baik. Udah ya, saya nggak mau komentar lagi soal itu (Luna),” pungkasnya.

Ferdinand: Inggris Hanya Bidik Gelar Juara
Jadwal Piala Dunia 2010 RCTI Kepercayaan diri Rio Ferdinand sangat tinggi terkait dengan peluang Inggris di Piala Dunia 2010. Dengan kekuatan yang dimiliki skuad Fabio Capello saat ini, bek Manchester United itu percaya rekan-rekannya bisa mengakhiri kompetisi dengan memenuhi target tim, yakni menjadi juara.
"Kami tidak berencana untuk pergi ke turnamen ini hanya untuk bisa menembus perempat-final, semi-final atau final dan kami berpikir kami sudah memenuhi kewajiban kami," ungkap Ferdinand dikutip Sportinglife.
"Kami hanya akan memposisikan diri kami adil jika memenangi turnamen. Kami akan dengan tegas untuk mencoba dan berusaha membawa tropi ke Inggris."
Ferdinand menegaskan jika juara menjadi adalah harga mati bagi timnya karena hanya dengan cara itu mereka bisa masuk dalam sejarah Piala Dunia.
"Tak ada satu pun tim yang diingat karena hanya bisa menembus perempat-final atau semi-final. Karena itulah kami harus berlatih keras. Kami sudah melakukan persiapan yang bagus di Austria dan semoga hasilnya juga bagus di turnamen," tandasnya.

Mama Laurent Meninggal
Mama Lauren Meninggal, juru terawang terkenal di Indonesia, telah meninggal dunia pada Senin (17/5/2010) ini pukul 21.37 WIB di Rumah Sakit PGI Cikini, Jakarta.
Berita duka itu disampaikan oleh Deby Dzenar, anak angkat Mama Lauren, di Jakarta. Menurut Deby, Mama Lauren meninggal karena sakit jantung dan paru-paru. Mendiang sempat dirawat di rumah sakit tersebut sejak Minggu (16/5/2010).
Mama Lauren, yang bernama lengkap Laurentia Pasaribu, lahir di Eindhoven, Belanda, pada 23 Januari 1932. Pada dirinya mengalir darah Belanda (ibu) dan Belgia (ayah).
Diterangkan pula oleh Deby, jenazah Mama Lauren disemayamkan di rumah duka di kawasan Cipinang, Jakarta Timur. Jenazah rencananya akan dimakamkan di TPU Menteng Pulo, Jakarta Selatan, pada Selasa (18/5/2010) siang. Ada seorang anak Mama Lauren yang masih ditunggu kedatangannya dari Bali untuk ikut memakamkan sang mendiang

Maxima Gaet Bintang Asing untuk Dongkrak Jumlah Penonton
Untuk tetap berkiprah di dunia perfilman Indonesia, produsen film Menculik Miyabi Maxima Pictures punya kiat khusus. Kiat tersebut di antaranya menggaet bintang film dari luar negeri.
“Sebenarnya metode itu (menggunakan bintang film asing) bukan sesuatu yang baru. Tetapi saya mencoba menggunakan kembali,” ujar produser Maxima Pictures Ody Mulya Hidayat, Jumat (7/5).
Beberapa film produksi Maxima menggunakan bintang film asing terutama dari Asia. Pada Menculik Miyabi, Maxima menggunakan bintang yang dikenal sebagai pemain film dewasa, Maria Ozawa dari Jepang. Di film Suster Keramas, Maxima memakai Rin Sakuragi yang juga bintang film dewasa asal Jepang. Sedangkan pada film Tiran: Mati di Ranjang, Maxima menggaet aktris dari Taiwan, Zuzana Chang.
Menurut Ody, penggunaan pemain dari luar negeri diharapkan bisa mendongrak pamor film yang mereka produksi. “Semua film di Indonesia saat ini drop. Bahkan film-film yang menggunakan bintang-bintang papan atas Indonesia,” dalih Ody.
Kendati banyak menggunakan bintang film dari Asia, Ody tidak menutup kemungkinan memakai aktris dari Eropa atau Amerika Serikat.
Selain memakai pemain dari luar negeri, Maxima juga berupaya menyasar target pasar yang khusus. “Target pasarnya remaja. Karena mayoritas penonton film di Indonesia adalah remaja,” tambah Ody.
Maxima juga mengakui film-film yang diproduksi mereka mayoritas bergenre horor. “Setengah kekuatan kami memang di horor,” kata Ody. Tetapi, Maxima juga memproduksi film drama komedi. Contohnya, Menculik Miyabi.
Sejak berdiri pada 2006, Maxima telah menelurkan 20 film. Mayoritas film yang dikeluarkan bertema horor dan komedi. Tahun ini, Maxima telah membuat tiga film: Menculik Miyabi, Arisan Berondong, dan Tiran: Mati di Ranjang. Ody menargetkan tahun ini Maxima membuat tujuh sampai delapan film.

Alter Jane
Meski didesak untuk bercerai dengan suaminya, Alter Hofan (32), Jane Deviyanti bersikukuh tidak akan menceraikan suaminya tersebut walau dirinya sudah ditipu. Di mata Jane, pernikahannya dengan Alter adalah sebuah anugerah Tuhan yang tak ternilai harganya.
"Kami dipersatukan oleh Tuhan, karena itu kami tidak dapat dipisahkan oleh manusia, " ujar Jane, ditirukan oleh pengacaranya Kores Tambunan, udai menggelar jumpa pers di kantor Komnas HAM, Jakarta, Rabu (5/5/2010).
Wanita penyandang tuna rungu tersebut juga mengaku sangat puas sudah melaporkan kasus yang menimpa dirinya itu ke Komnas HAM. Pasalnya, ia sangat berharap bisa berkumpul kembali dengan suami dan keluarganya seperti sediakala.
"Saya berharap bisa berkumpul lagi dengan keluarga seperti dulu," harapnya.
Sebelumnya, Kuasa Hukum Alter Hofan, Kores Tambunan, melaporkan perkara yang menimpa kliennya tersebut ke Komnas HAM. Kores menganggap penahanan terhadap Alter dinilai tidak dilandasi atas bukti-bukti yang kuat. Kores mensinyalir ada indikasi pelanggaran HAM dalam kasus tersebut.
Aparat penegak hukum seperti Kepolisian dan Kejaksaan sudah memiliki gelagat ketakutan, sehingga mereka melakukan proses cekal pada Tanggal 22 desember 2009 atas permintaan Wakapolda Metro Jaya ke Kejaksaan Tinggi, dengan alasan menghindari hilangnya barang bukti.
"Padahal Alter tidak kabur," katanya.
Alter dipenjara di LP Wanita Pondok Bambu setelah menyandang status tersangka pemalsuan identitas dan penipuan yang dilaporkan oleh orangtua Jane Deviyanti. Alter mengaku sebagai seorang laki-laki yang mengidap sindrom klineferter.
Sindrom Klineferter ini disebut juga Kondisi XXY, yaitu kelebihan kromosom x. Dalam tubuh Alter mengandung dua kromosom x dan 1 kromosom y.
Kondisi ini menyebabkan Alter tak punya sperma, tak punya rahim, berpenis kecil, dan memiliki kelenjar payudara. Namun Alter mengklaim diri sebagai seorang laki-laki dan menikahi Jane Deviyanti.
Tahun 2006 dia melakukan rekontruksi payudara (masektomi) di Kanada.

Yamaha Xeon 125 vs Vario CBS Techno
Honda Vario CBS Techno boleh jadi selama ini belum ada lawan tangguh yang sebanding. Namun dengan kelahiran Xeon, Vario CBS Techno mau tak mau harus siap head to head dengan matik Yamaha Xeon itu.
Jika dilihat dari sisi harga, kedua motor ini tak jauh berbeda, Yamaha Xeon dijual Rp 15,5 juta lebih murah dibandingkan Vario CBS Techno yang dijual seharga Rp 15,79 juta.
Meski harga relatif sama, namun teknologinya beda. Yamaha mengagungkan teknologi forged piston dan DiASil Cylinder sedangkan Vario CBS Techno mengusung teknologi combi brake.
Yamaha pun sesumbar kalau motornya itu motor matik tercepat berkat teknologi silinder yang juga diterapkan pada motor Jupiter MX.

Film Cowboys in Paradise
Para beach boy yang menjadi 'bintang' dalam film Cowboys in Paradise membantah berprofesi sebagai gigolo. Mereka sehari-hari bekerja sebagai pelatih selancar (surfing) yang beroperasi di sepanjang bibir pantai Kuta, Bali.
"Kami bukan gigolo, Mas. kita kerja di sini melatih berselancar para tamu," kata Arnold kepada reporter detikcom, Rabu (28/4/2010). Arnold salah satu beach boy yang muncul dalam film garapan Amit Virmani tersebut. Dia pemuda yang bilang,"I love you!"
Bersama rekan-rekannya, selama lima tahun terakhir Arnold membuka kursus surfing kecil-kecilan dan menyewakan papan surfing di Pantai Kuta. Tarif yang dikenakan kepada wisatawan untuk berselancar sebesar Rp 150 ribu per jam.
"Biasanya dua jam belajar, mereka sudah bisa berdiri di atas papan selancar," kata Arnold yang asal Jawa Timur ini.
Sementara itu, Agus yang menyewakan papan selancar juga membantah jika rekannya berprofesi gigolo. "Saya kenal mereka dan bekerja sama saya sejak lama, tidak benar mereka gigolo," kata Agus.

Indonesian Students Protest Obama's Visit
Scores of Islamic students staged protests outside Jakarta's parliament and in at least three other major Indonesian cities on Friday against President Barack Obama's upcoming visit to this predominantly Muslim country.
The students carried banners branding President Barack Obama as an enemy of Islam and an imperialist in downtown Jakarta as well as in the provincial capitals Padang, Yogyakarta and Surabaya.
They also threw shoes at large pictures of Obama's head. An Iraqi journalist was sentenced to a year in prison for throwing his shoes at U.S. President George W. Bush during a news conference in Baghdad in 2008.
Protest organizer Ahmad Irhamul Fikri, spokesman for the Coordinating Board for Campus Proselytizing Institute, said bigger rallies will be staged next Friday in more Indonesian cities ahead of Obama's March 20-22 visit.

Dawn Brancheau Video, A family in the United States claims its video shows the final moments before Tilikum the orca struck (see footage, right).
Grisly new details have emerged over how Tilikum - already linked to two other human deaths since 1991 - grabbed his veteran trainer by her ponytail and dragged her down into his tank without warning.
Dawn Brancheau The Orange County Medical Examiner has determined that 40-year-old Brancheau most likely died from multiple traumatic injuries and drowning after one of the park's killer whales pulled her into a pool behind Shamu Stadium, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.
Earlier, Ms Brancheau’s supervisor confirmed the killer whale, named Tilikum, dragged the trainer underwater by her ponytail.
"What we have found out is that Dawn had just finished up a very good session with this animal ... She was interacting with him, petting him on the nose," Chuck Tompkins, who is also curator of zoological operations at SeaWorld Orlando, told ABC’s Good Morning America.
"Dawn had very long hair in a ponytail. That ponytail had swung in front of him. He grabbed her by the hair and pulled her underwater and held her underwater," Mr Tompkins said.
Mr Tompkins added that a second trainer nearby confirmed that Brancheau was grabbed right after her ponytail swung in front of killer whale.
The sheriff’s office said in a statement that rescuers were not able to immediately jump in and render assistance to Brancheau due to the whale's aggressive nature.
The trainer was recovered from the whale by SeaWorld staff members after the animal was coaxed into a smaller pool and lifted out of the water by a large platform that lay on the bottom of the smaller tank.
In a grim twist, the smaller pool was apparently the same spot where the naked body of Daniel Dukes was found draped dead over Tilikum's back in July 1999 after the man sneaked into SeaWorld after hours to swim with the animals.
First responders to the accident scene at the stadium believed that the victim had somehow slipped or fell into the orca's pool, the sheriff’s office said.
However, after witness statements were taken and reviewed by homicide investigators, it became apparent that the whale had, in fact, pulled Brancheau into the pool.
Before the attack, trainers had not been allowed in the water with Tilikum, and only about half of the park’s trainers were cleared to work with him.

Facebook lagi-lagi dimanfaatkan untuk tujuan jahat. Selly Yustiawati, penipu cantik yang selalu lolos sejak 2006 ini memakai Facebook untuk mencari mangsa baru. Pada awalnya, Selly selalu keluar masuk sebuah perusahaan.
Targetnya adalah para karyawan dengan modus menawarkan bisnis pulsa murah atau butuh uang karena kepepet. Dengan bujuk rayu dan wajah cantik, korban pun berjatuhan. Sejak menipu karyawan Hotel Gran Mahakam dan Kompas Gramedia pada 2009, belum ketahuan lagi perusahaan lain yang ditipu Selly.
Korban baru yang berjatuhan malah melalui jaringan pertemanan Facebook. Seperti dikisahkan NB, keluarga mereka ditipu Rp 4,6 juta. Tidak besar memang, namun mengingat pelaku adalah Selly, kemungkinan masih banyak lagi keluarga lain yang ditipu dengan cara yang sama. Keluarga NB kenal dengan Selly lewat Facebook.
"Dia mengaku namanya Eyy, kenalan adik kami dari Facebook. Dia main ke rumah dan mengaku sebagai wartawati Kompas. Karena dia sopan, kami percaya saja," kata NB saat dihubungi detikcom, Selasa (16/2/2010). Selly memakai ransel dengan logo Kompas, sehingga mereka percaya Selly wartawan sungguhan. Selly alias Eyy sangat ramah dan mempesona. Ketika dia menawarkan bisnis pulsa murah, semua orang tertarik. Selly pun menawarkan Blackberry dengan harga miring.
Setelah mempengaruhi para korban, Selly pun meminta mereka mentransfer uang ke Bank Mandiri. "Setelah kita transfer uang, ada yang menelepon entah siapa. Dia mengatakan hati-hati dengan Selly dia penipu. Dia lagi dicari polisi," kata NB lagi. NB lalu mengecek nama Selly di situs pencarian. Lalu terungkaplah sepak terjang Selly sebagai penipu kawakan. Namun terlambat, uang sudah dikirimkan.
Ponsel Selly tidak bisa dihubungi. Saat dicari dalam jejaring Facebook, dia menghapus dirinya dari semua jaringan pertemanan terkait dengan keluarga NB. Nodar Kumaritashvili s Death Youtube A video showing Olympic athlete Nodar Kumaritashvili's final moments in his fatal run down Whistler's luge track Friday was broadcast on CTV and on the broadcaster's Olympic website, and quickly circulated on the Internet despite You-Tube's efforts to remove it from view.
Coverage of the accident, which spread faster through Twitter than through traditional media, sparked controversy with some online contributors criticizing the decision to broadcast the fatal crash while others were quick to share it and still others reacted almost callously to the death.
"I was on Twitter when it happened, so that's when I first heard about it," said Alfred Hermida, who leads the integrated journalism program at the Graduate School of Journalism of the University of British Columbia. "I heard the first reports of the death through Twitter and I heard about the video through Twitter.
"The reaction I saw from people I follow was, 'I didn't need to see that video.' Their reaction was shock and horror."
The Vancouver Sun decided not to post the video of the crash or graphic photos of the fatally injured luger.
As a news event, the incident was yet another dramatic demonstration of how the dissemination of news has changed.
"The fact is, it was almost instantly broadcast online," Hermida said. "Before, we had a media system where everything was filtered through journalists, but that doesn't happen any more.
"It transfers the responsibility to [consumers of news] to decide whether to watch this video or not."
Vancouver's Anthony Floyd disagreed with the airing of the video and shared his distaste for some Twitter reactions to the accident. "CTV was SO irresponsible in showing that video. Sunderland target 'critical' after shooting
Salvador Cabanas Balazo Video, Sunderland transfer target and Paraguay international Salvador Cabanas is in a critical condition after being shot in the head last night.
The 29-year-old striker was shot after an incident in Mexico City.
The Club America striker was taken to a hospital intensive care unit.
Mexico City attorney general Miguel Angel Mancera told TV station Televisa: "We don't clearly know the motive behind the injury.
"According to an initial report it was a shot from a firearm with a frontal entry point and without exit.
"The player is conscious but he has a heart problem which they're trying to stabilise.
"We're waiting to see what those arrested have to say.
"It seems that the attack happened in the bathroom of the bar."

LG GW300 HP QWERTY 2010
LG di tahun 2010 akan lebih banyak memasarkan ponsel QWERTY. Langkah itu diambil LG ponsel seri GW300 sukses di pasaran.
“QWERTY akan diperbanyak, karena pertumbuhan seri GW300 yang pesat,” kata Marketing Manager PT LG Electronics Indonesia Halim Astono di Jakarta.
Ponsel LG GW300 sejak diluncurkan pada bulan Oktober telah mencapai penjualan tinggi. “Ponsel Android juga akan kami masukkan,” katanya.
Richard Susilo, Product Marketing LG Indonesia mengatakan pihaknya akan meluncurkan 30 seri ponsel. Karena ponsel QWERTY pasarnya masih bagus, sebagian besar ponsel LG akan mengusung model itu.
Sementara LG Indonesia juga memberangkatkan dua remaja asal RI dalam kompetisi mengetik SMS tercepat tingkat global di New York.
Syanti Deviani dan Jimy Heriyanto di New York akan berlaga melawan 26 peserta dari 13 negara dan pemenangnya akan tercatat di Guiness Book World of Record.
Kompetisi itu menyediakan hadiah sebesar USD100 ribu. Peserta akan menggunakan LG BL20V untuk numerik dan LG GW525 untuk ponsel QWERTY pesaing Samsung Corby Qwerty

Sentra Kerajinan di Bantul Dipadati Pengunjung
Toko Batik Online - Libur akhir tahun menjadi berkah bagi kalangan perajin di sentra-sentra di Kabupaten Bantul. Jumlah pengunjung dari berbagai kota melonjak, sehingga omset mereka pun ikut naik hingga 30 persen.
Toko Batik - Keramaian pengunjung terlihar di sentra kerajinan gerabah Kasongan, sentra kerajinan kulit Manding, dan sentra kerajinan batik kayu di Krebet. Pengunjung didominasi bus-bus pariwisata rombongan dari berbagai kota seperti Surabaya, Jakarta, dan Madiun.
"Lumayanlah banyak yang beli aksesoris rumah seperti kap lampu, vas bunga, sampai hiasan dinding," kata Sarah, penjaga salah satu outlet di komplek Kasongan, Kamis (31/12/2009).
Isponiyo, salah seorang perajin gerabah, di Kasongan Bantul mengatakan, motif batik tengah menjadi tren produk yang banyak diminati pasar setengah tahun terakhir. Peminatnya sebagian besar dari Kota Solo dan Semarang. "Motif batik menggantikan tren motif kayu dan tembaga, yang sempat popular sebelumnya," katanya.
Sebagian besar pengunjung adalah wisatawan yang sengaja ingin menghabiskan malam tahun baru di Yogya. "Kami datang dari Surabaya menginap selama tiga hari di sini. Nanti saat pergantian tahun ingin melihat situasi di Malioboro. Untuk oleh-oleh kami beli aksesoris rumah di Kasongan," kata Suherman, salah seorang pengunjung.
Riyadi, perajin batik kayu di Krebet mengatakan, penghujung tahun selalu mendatangkan berkah. Selain banyak pembeli yang datang langsung, pesanan juga menumpuk terutama untuk luar negeri. "Di luar negeri pergantian tahun biasanya diikuti dengan perubahan desain interior rumah," katanya.
Di Manding, para pengunjung menyerbu produk sepatu dan tas kulit. "Kalau pengunjung banyak, kami selalu kesulitan menyediakan tempat parkir. Bahkan banyak yang akhirnya memilih tidak singgah karena tidak ada parkir," kata Aris Pranowo, salah seorang perajin kulit.
